What Is Static Routing?

Driver delivering beer to store

With static routes, each route is planned in advance, creating a master schedule.

This can be very valuable for a business that visits the same customer on some fixed frequency. If, for example, every customer is visited weekly, there would be five (or maybe six) plans for static routes in the master schedule and a different one would be executed on each given day of the week.

How Do You Do It Now?

First, create the master schedule.

  • Divide recurring work by day.
  • Sort the work for each day by hand.
  • Sort each route into desired order by hand.

Then, on a daily basis…

  • Make a copy of the static routes in the master schedule.
  • Make any changes to the route on an as-needed basis.
